I am Pastor Kim's son, and a Professor at Pepperdine University in Southern California. My father, Kwang Oh Kim, passed away on December 5, 2025, at Parker Adventist Hospital in Colorado, due to complications from gastric cancer.

As you all know, Pastor Kim was an incredibly dedicated minister and servant to many churches across the United States and also in Korea. He started as a chaplain in Seoul, and after coming to the States to be one of the first in his church to study and receive a Masters of Divinity, he went on to successfully plant and pastor many churches.

He began his ministry in Detroit, then Seattle (which he described as his most successful period of ministry), Los Angeles, later Denver, and finally Atlanta. Pastor Kim was one of the most gifted preachers and translators of his generation, and in his later years became a poet and author. Even in his final weeks, from the hospital bed, he was raising money for Sahmyook University, his alma mater.

Pastor Kim is survived by his wife, Kyungsoon "Kathy" Kim, who was a registered nurse for over four decades and one of the kindest and most committed pastor's wives. She unfortunately has been living with dementia for the past 9 years, and during that time Pastor Kim was her primary caregiver. Any remaining funds that are not used towards burial and memorial expenses will be used for her care. He is also survived by his two sons and four grandchildren.

Pastor Kim's memorial service is on January 10, at the Denver Korean church. I am hiring a professional media team to record the service, and will share the link for viewing in the weeks after.
