Dave Roever Evangelistic Association, Roever Foundation, and REAP International have been blessed with a great team of people who make it possible to fulfill the Great Commission of Matthew 28:19. One of those individuals is Dave Wallace. This October will mark his 7th year with our organization. As the Executive Director of Global Education, Dave is an essential part of helping REAP achieve its mission of Making Disciple Makers.
Dave and I traveled to Africa in February of 2022. Lusaka, Zambia was our first trip post-COVID. One thing stood out differently from our previous US and International discipleship visits. He needed a walking cane throughout our entire trip. Even more alarming, his weight since January 2022 has drastically dropped from 180 pounds to 150-155 pounds today. Dave is also experiencing loss of balance, weakness, and sporadic numbness on the right side of his body.
In an effort to get answers for his declining condition, Dave visited a neurosurgeon in May 2022 and his MRI failed to produce any conclusive answers. He then secured an appointment with a neurologist and upon his July 2022 follow-up, he received a life-threatening report. The doctor bluntly told Dave that he would soon experience weakness on his left side as well, be confined to a wheelchair, and even need speech therapy in the near future. Dave asked if there was a cure and the physician advised him to simply start attending ALS classes at Dallas Parkland Hospital and “learn how to live with it.”
Dave shared how he left the doctor’s office knowing that he would rely on the report of the Lord rather than the death sentence spoken over him. Because of the physician’s rudeness or demeanor? No. Because the doctor said what he “thought” it was without ever providing a documented diagnosis? No. Because he was told that he had maybe 3 years left to live? No. Simply put, Dave knows that God’s Word has the final say and is the ultimate authority concerning his health and life.
Fast forward to August – Dave met with Doctor Nelson, a chiropractic specialist in Keller, Texas whom John Arroyo, our VP of Roever Foundation, has been seeing for several weeks. John’s visits with Doctor Nelson have increased movement and sensation in his nearly paralyzed right arm. What John has experienced in a short period of time is the best results John has had in over eight years since his injury. Doctor Nelson not only offers expert analysis and chiropractic care but also Laser Therapy and Myofascial Therapy.
I appeal to you today because:
• Dr. Nelson has an expectancy of 70-80% physical restoration for Dave’s condition. He sees how the neurologist may have thought ALS was the cause of Dave's decline. However, immediate intensive treatment can halt the symptoms Dave is currently experiencing.
• The services provided by Dr. Nelson are elective, non-traditional procedures not covered by Dave and Shirley’s insurance, Blue Cross Blue Shield (Federal Employee Plan). Unfortunately, Doctor Nelson is also out of their network.
• Our brother, Dave Wallace, needs our help by coming alongside him to cover these sudden and unforeseen medical expenses that total $14,000.
• Dave is scheduled to begin intensive therapy 3 days each week for the next 6 months starting Monday, September 12, 2022 as part of his path to healing and restoration.
• Please partner with us by standing in unity with Dave, Shirley, their two college-enrolled daughters (Tisha and Deztiny), and his adult son (David, III) who currently serves in the US Air Force.
God is not done with using Dave Wallace.
Respectfully,
Thien-An (Dan) Dang, Ph.D.
Vice President. REAP International
