Pastor John H. Melms - In Memorial

Hi, it is with heavy heart that we are asking for your help.

Pastor John Harvey Melms, who many of you know as your pastor from church passed away on September 27th, 2021.

He leaves a legacy of his wonderful wife, Mary, as well as a large loving family and many friends he's made across the nation over the years. 

He is survived by his loving wife Mary, his sons Kenneth, Robert and Christopher,  his daughters Anne and Karen, as well as his grandchildren Andrea, Zachary, Robert Jr., Madison, TJ, Kaylee, Ryleigh, and Llillian, and his extended family of Amy & Lilah B. and Mikel S.


He will be missed by all of us. 


John started his journey through this world in Detroit, Michigan - attending St. Peter's Lutheran Church, School & Early Childhood Center before changing directions and learning technology and computer skills.  When he re-found his joy for the church, he committed himself 100% to the calling and attended Concordia Theological Seminary to earn his collar. 

His spirit infused the whole family with joy - and his fierce commitment to serving his parishioners brought peace to many parts of the country through his works as:

- Pastor at St Paul and St James Lutheran Churches
- Pastor at The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod
- Pastor at LCMS
- Pastor at GIZ - Grace and Zion Lutheran Churches   

While Pastor Melms was wealthy in family, in spirit, in kinship, in kindness, in charity, and in his commitments - his wealth of spirit didn't translate  naturally into the mundane worldy possessions needed to put him to his final rest in peace.  He put his faith and spirit into the work he did for others, without concerning himself with how much they could give back to him.
