On September 26, 2019 Pastor Joe was diagnosed via CT Scan with some form of cancer on his vocal cords which had also spread into two of his lymph nodes.
A needle biopsy, surgical biopsy and PET Scan have all since confirmed the presence of some sort of cancer but still cannot determine type or stage.
The PET Scan of 10/17/19 did show that the cancer has NOT spread anywhere else as of that time.
The surgical biopsy sample has been sent to the Mayo Clinic for further evaluation. Determining stage and type is necessary to begin proper treatment.
As you can imagine, Pastor Joe has racked up some medical bills in the process, not to mention having to miss numerous days of work due to the surgery and various tests.
And so, the Gomez Family is asking for your help. Medical bills are already near $1,000. Pastor Joe receives a limited amount of paid sick time at his secular employer and has used that up this past week after surgery. Radiation is typically five days per week for six weeks minimum and Pastor Joe will also require chemotherapy to destroy the cancer.
Pastor Joe’s initial prognosis is good, with his oncologist saying this is “cure-able”. Pastor Joe’s faith in God is strong and he continues to cry out to God daily for a cure—for his healing.
We are establishing an initial goal of $15,000 for this GoFundMe Campaign. Many vocal cord cancer patients lose their voices for a time during radiation, which would mean he cannot work in the church or at his secular job without his voice.
Whatever you give will be greatly appreciated. We want to remind you that his wife Stephanie began 2019 out of work due to rotator cuff surgery for a complete tear, so needless to say 2019 has been very hard on the family’s finances.
The money will be used to offset Pastor Joe’s loss of work, his current medical bills, and to help him focus on beating cancer, whatever kind it is.
