Dear Friends, Family, and Kind-hearted Supporters,

My name is Umi Gandy and I am currently a Junior at NYC iSchool. From a young age I have been passionate about traveling, learning about new cultures, architecture and interior design. I am writing to you today with a heart full of excitement and determination as I embark on an incredible journey to study abroad in Spain for 4 weeks through the CIEE program. This opportunity is not just a dream for me, it represents a pivotal step towards achieving my academic and personal goals. I have been studying Spanish since middle school and it's been a wonderful journey. I was also exposed to the Spanish language and Latin culture through my family’s business working with artisans in Colombia. The influence of the Moors on Spanish culture, architecture and beliefs has also drawn me to Spain. My desire has always been to deepen my understanding of the language and culture. However, to make this dream a reality, I need your support.

Studying abroad offers me the unique chance to immerse myself in a different culture, gain global perspectives, and enhance my academic experience.

I have been selected to participate in the CIEE study abroad program in Spain, which is renowned for its rigorous academic curriculum and enriching cultural experiences. This program will allow me to engage in language immersion and develop essential skills that will prepare me for a successful future. Additionally, living in Spain will provide me with the chance to be immersed in the Spanish language and culture and build lifelong friendships. The cost of the program includes housing, meals, classes and travel in Spain.

While this opportunity is invaluable, it comes with a significant financial cost. I was fortunate enough to receive a partial scholarship, however, there is a remaining balance for the cost of the program and airfare, which is approximately $4500. I am reaching out to you, my community, to help bridge this financial gap.
