To my friends of old, friends of now and friends to come,
Hi, my name is Gabriel Stockton, and I am a local San Diego artist. Drawing & painting have always been a part of my life. Colorful jars of paint were within arm’s reach at my mother’s ceramic studio, AKA “The Garage.” While on my educational journey, I worked in mixed media but eventually focused on watercolor. In 2021 I became a Daniel Smith Brand Ambassador for their Extra Fine Watercolors. I regularly lead and participate in paint demos, workshops, and paint-outs. My artwork is found in various galleries, libraries, art districts and is hung in private collections worldwide.
How was I led to GoFundMe?
Today seemed like a typical day of teaching watercolor painting at Balboa Park in San Diego, Ca. with the sun out on a winter morning high of 55. My out-of-town student inquired about any new and upcoming events I was planning. I replied with, I have an opportunity to attend the beautiful city of Bologna, Italy, to experience an amazing watercolor event. The event draws people from all over the world to teach watercolor.
My student replied, "Well, a passport is only $80!" I took a step back and said, "It's a little more difficult than that... See, I am not the person I once was, and I didn't know Jesus back then or have my priorities in the right place." My student (who is slightly older than me) kept trying to ask what was the real problem and I said, "My passport has a flag for owing past money obligations I failed to take care of." He squared his shoulders with me and asked, "How much and what for if you don't mind me asking?" I replied, "Well, it's complicated... but to be super transparent, it's back owed government debt." (Not the easiest conversation to type about either) I was very young, and it's time to move forward... Long story short, let's call my student Mike... Mike said, "Gabriel, I can help you with some money because you really need to attend this event that will help your career... listen real good... I like your passion for watercolor, God, and how you encourage others to paint... take my advice and make a GoFundMe and let's get you a passport."
I am inviting you to come alongside me to help obtain a passport.
Raised funds will help me attend the watercolor event in Bologna, Italy, in May 2022. This event has the best of the best watercolorists from around the world who will be teaching workshops, and many of the top art suppliers/companies will be in attendance.
My goal is to raise $5000 by March 1st, 2022. These funds will go towards helping me make my final payments for the government debt, passport-related costs and various travel expenses to help make my trip successful. I am currently applying additional income earned from selling my art towards this goal. I would be grateful for any additional contribution you can make to support my dream. I would love to share my journey with you and provide a print of an original watercolor painting of Italy to all who donate and an original painting for those who donate more than $500.
I am genuinely thankful for your time and support to my 2022 journey,
Gabriel Stockton
