Dear Friends & Family,
Our beloved father, Trinidad La Luz recently passed. Originally, we were off to Puerto Rico to celebrate Father's Day with our favorite guy. We were excited because this has become a tradition since our mom passed away 12 years ago.
On June 14th, Iris arrived in Puerto Rico on a red eye. Wednesday morning, she arrived at our dad’s house only to find out that he was very ill, and just like most parents, he did not tell us anything because “he did not want to worry us.” After several calls back and forth with Yajaira [who was still in NJ and scheduled to arrive in PR on Saturday, just in time for Father’s Day], we decided to cancel her flight to Puerto Rico and agreed that our father was incapable of being left alone and we needed to bring him back to NYC asap. Multiple hours later of scouring the airlines [and being on hold with representatives] for two return tickets to NYC, on Thursday, June 16, 2022, we finally booked Iris and Dad's flight back home. Unfortunately, our father passed away an Uber on our way to the airport.
Our family was not prepared for the high cost of a funeral. During this challenging time, we are reaching out to our friends, family & community for help & support to alleviate the continued cost of travel back to PR to claim our dad’s ashes and conduct a small family service. The financial burden is significant with the last-minute cancellations of the airfares (which were not credited) and extending our trip to figure out funeral services and morgue services. We also had to “prove” he was our father, so we had to go to the municipio, to retrieve copies of our birth certificates to prove that he was our father. In addition to this cost, the ambulance and hospital are requesting emergency payment. We hope to return our father’s body to NYC, where he can be buried with both our brother & mother.
We come together to ask for your monetary extension of support so we can lay our dad to rest.
He was an exceptionally hardworking father and showed us the importance of helping others, humility and how to love with a pure heart.
We thank you all for your love, prayers, and support.
With love & gratitude,
Iris & Yajaira La Luz
