Passing of Erik Korling, Father, Teacher & Son

On Wednesday, July 7 2021, Erik Mason Korling, loving father, son, brother, teacher, and friend, tragically passed away suddenly and unexpectedly after a brief illness at the age of 53.

Erik leaves behind his two teenaged children, who meant the world to him. Erik was a loving and dedicated father, working hard to raise and nurture them and be the most supporting dad he could be; taking them on camping trips, exploring nature, visiting museums, and taking them to the movies.

He was also a teacher which was not only his occupation, but also very much his passion that took him to various parts of the world. He did not think of education as mere paycheck-generating, cookie-cutter process to unleash upon the world parade upon parade of working capital. Rather, he saw education as an invaluable institution; a foundry to shape and mold his students, instill a passion for learning, the desire to not teach them what to think but how and to do so critically. Draw from one's own inner talents and traits and let those experiences manifest and thrive as they walk the path of life.

He was an avid reader of various genres, ranging from science fiction and nonfiction, mythology, and world history. He was also a prolific model builder and a fan of Tolkien, Star Trek, Star Wars, DC and Marvell superheroes.

The overwhelming emotional pain his immediate and surrounding family is feeling from his passing also brings with it a heavy financial burden for his children and those in the family lovingly supporting them and help lay their father to rest.
