This year I will be joining the relentlessly cheerful Jarvis De Subia, flawlessly poetic Hadas Goshen, unabashededly real Casey Gardner, and phenomenally optomistic Mike Taylor in competing at The National Poetry Slam 2015 in Oakland, CA!!
Last year's team made it all the way to Group Piece Finals and took 5th in the nation! This year, we're looking to go even farther.. but we need your help!
Right now, we're in the midst of heavy preparation: writing new poems, competing at regional competitions, and last but not least... fundraising!
Going to Nationals isn't cheap and we're doing a bit of traveling this summer, as well, to compete with some of the best teams around the nation to prepare us for the big show.
We're asking friends, family, and supporters of the spoken word to donate whatever they can to help us alleviate some of the cost.
You may be asking, why 3500? Let me tell you.
Cost breakdown:
Southwest Shootout Regional tournament in Albaquerque (June 26-27): We're asking for $2000 to help cover the flights for all 5 team members.
Ink Slam tournament in LA (July 9-11): We're asking for $155 to help cover the cost of registration.
Travel cost: We're asking for $345 to cover the cost of gas and other travel expenses for our trips to both InkSlam and Visalia, CA for a regional competition (June 12-13)
Nationals Hotel Room: We're asking for help covering the $1000 cost of the hotel room we will need during the week of Nationals in Oakland, CA.
Any donation you can make will be cherished and apprecaited! However for those who want a little in return we have some great packages available!!
For $20, you will receive a Palo Alto Slam Team chapbook (containing multiple poems for all team members/coaches) and a FREE team hug at your choosing! =D
For $50, you will receive a team chapbook, limitless free hugs, and a ticket to one of our bouts at Nationals in Oakland. (Great deal if you are already planning on coming out to support the team!!)
And lastly, for $100, you will receive a team chapbook, hugs all around, a ticket to one of our bouts, and an official Team Palo Alto Slam team shirt!! #swag
