Ciao, sono Kim e mi sono trasferita l'anno scorso con mio marito dall'Inghilterra in Abruzzo. Avendo già vissuto precedentemente a Milano per tanti anni, non ero preparata per la situazione dei randagi locali. E' molto tragica e ha spezzato i nostri cuori.

In questo momento abbiamo 12 gatti in casa e 4 cani. 5 dei gatti sono "nostri", portati con noi dall'Inghilterra - anche se erano 7 nell'inizio - perché per noi fanno parte della famiglia. Gli altri abbiamo trovati qui nell'ultimo anno e ognuno di loro rischiava la morte. Purtroppo non possiamo accoglierne di più, perché siamo in una piccola casa d'affitto temporanea. Diamo da mangiare ogni giorno a una quarantina di altri cani e gatti randagi qui nella zona. Ultimamente facciamo davvero fatica a trovare i soldi per fare tutto ciò. Non ci piace chiedere aiuto, soprattutto soldi, ma purtroppo senza aiuti non ce la facciamo. E i randagi moriranno senz'altro, quindi bisogna mettere l'orgoglio da parte.I soldi servono innanzitutto per il cibo, ma anche per le vaccinazioni, sterilizzazioni e soprattutto i costi del veterinario per le emergenze. Stiamo provando a fare un piano lungo termine, chiedendo aiuto ai comuni e l'ASL. Almeno per le sterilizzazioni. Ma i tempi sono lunghi e i randagi troppi. I proprietari qui non sterilizzano e poi capita che magari si trovano tre volte all'anno con dei cuccioli. Che di solito non fanno una bella fine. E come se non bastasse, c'è un focolaio di Parvovirus in questo momento.

E ora ha toccato il PARVO ai "nostri randagi". Abbiamo perso 2 gattine randagine per ora, un gattino è nella clinica a Vasto dove combatte ancora. Molti altri sono a rischio e bisogna fare una campagna di vaccinazione.

Hi, I'm Kim. Last year I moved with my husband from the UK to Abruzzo.

Having lived previously in Milan for many, many years, I was not at all prepared for the stray situation I encountered here. It is heartbreaking.

Currently we have 12 cats in the house and 4 dogs. 5 of the cats are "ours", brought with us from England - even though there were 7 to start with - because for us, our cats are part of the family. And we would have never moved without them.

We feed about forty between stray dogs and cats every day here in the area. Lately we are really struggling to find the money to do all this. We don't like asking for help, especially money, but unfortunately without help from others, we can't do it. Which means those strays will die.

The money is needed first of all for food, but also for vaccinations, neutering/spaying and emergency vet costs.

We are trying to make a long-term plan, asking for help from the municipalities and the ASL. At least for the sterilizations. But waiting times are long and there are too many strays. The owners here do not sterilize and thus several times a year, they find themselves with puppies and kittens. Who will (have to) die.

And on top of this tragedy, there is a local outbreak of Parvovirus at the moment.

Unfortunately the update of June 2025 is that the Parvo has contaminated "our strays". We are terrified as they could be wiped out. We are trying now to contain the virus as much as we can.

We lost 2 little strays already, one is in the clinic fighting for his life. Others are at risk and we need to organise a big vaccination campaign, to avoid many more deaths. Parvo is extremely lethal.
