My beloved dog, who is known to her loved ones as Party Time Annie, was severely injured while playing fetch in our backyard on 5/15/25. Luckily, though she received a huge puncture wound to her chest, her chest wall was not punctured and her lungs were safe.
Unfortunately, that is no longer the case. Despite extensive medical attention already (multiple procedures, wound pocket cleaning, surgery, and multiple courses of three different antibiotics), Annie's life is now in danger because a chronic infection caused by an antibiotic-resistant bacteria is tunneling into the muscles that run between her ribs. This tunneling could work through her chest wall, which would cause her lungs to collapse and likely kill her.
Annie is currently hospitalized at Upstate Veterinary Specialists, an animal hospital in Greenville SC. She is due to have surgery to remove the infected tissue from the extremely dangerous area of her chest wall on Monday, 6/23/2025. I have already drained my emergency savings by paying for the care she has received from other vets thus far (as described above), and the hospital is quoting that at minimum her upcoming life-saving care will cost at least $5,000.
Annie is otherwise a young, healthy, and happy dog and it is predicted that she will heal well if she is given the expert medical attention she needs. In my heart I cannot justify euthanizing her in this situation simply because her expensive vet bills will put me into significant debt.
It is extremely difficult for me to ask for money from others, but I will do everything in my ability to help Annie safely resume her joyful and exuberant life. All funds raised will go directly towards paying her medical costs. Please consider donating if you are able, and sharing this campaign if you are not. Any way you are able to help would be deeply appreciated.
I have posted some photos of her injuries/infection and will continue to do so and provide other updates. Please reach out if you have any questions. I want to be as transparent and communicative as possible.
