I’m heartbroken to share what’s happening in western Alaska right now.

Catastrophic flooding from the remnants of Typhoon Halong has devastated Yup’ik Indigenous villages like Kipnuk and Kwigillingok. Entire communities have lost everything — homes, power, clean water — and more than 1,600 people have been forced to evacuate, airlifted hundreds of miles away to Anchorage.

These are remote communities, only reachable by air or boat — and now, they’re submerged. Families have been uprooted with nowhere to return to. And with winter quickly approaching, the need to mobilize resources and help bring these families home is urgent.

I’m partnering with CORE (Community Organized Relief Effort) to help respond to this climate-fueled disaster. CORE is already on the ground, working directly with tribal leaders and Indigenous-led organizations to provide life-saving community-led support that respects the culture and voices of the communities affected.

Together, we can help provide:

✅ Cash Voucher Assistance (CVA) for evacuees to meet urgent needs like food, transportation, clothing, and medications

✅ Distribution of cold-weather clothing, hygiene kits, culturally familiar food items, and phone power banks

✅ Home modifications and rental assistance to stabilize temporary living situations

✅ Long-term recovery efforts that include community resilience projects and livelihood recovery initiatives
