Ever since I was 9 years old, I have had this grandiose dream welling up inside of me. I remember sitting in front of the TV and watching the Olympic sprinters power their way down the track with such grace and talent. From then on, I was hooked. As I grew, I fostered this dream in my heart and now, my dream of running in the Olympics and taking home the gold medal seems closer than ever. I believe this dream of mine is not just a dream, but a calling God has put on my life. So, to me, fulfilling my dream also means fulfilling my purpose and doing what I know I was made to do, and that is to run.
I am, and have always been, a sprinter and I specialize in the 200 meter dash. My hope is to run the 200 in the 2021 Olympic Games, which are to be held in Tokyo, Japan. My first shot at trying out for the Olympics was in 2016. I was hoping to run fast enough in the 200 meter dash to make it to the Olympic trials but, sadly, I missed the qualification time by about 1 second. It was such a blessing that I came that close because I had had knee surgery the year prior, in February of 2015. I was then out for recovery and was unable to return to full time training until December of 2015. This left me with only 6 months to train for the Olympic trials, which takes every bit of 4 years to prepare for. Needless to say, it was a very trying season both mentally and physically. I had gone through so much pain and heartache and even ran the fastest I had ever run, in such a short amount of time, only to come up short. This was truly devastating but I knew I still had more fight in me and all hope was not lost.
Now, here we are, five years later and I get the opportunity to do it again! However, I need your help to succeed. No dream or calling is fulfilled without the help of a great community. Therefore, our family needs you. In order for me to go to the Olympics, I need to:
1. First, compete in local track meets in order to qualify for the Olympic Trials. The 200 meter qualifying time is 22.88 seconds.
2. Then, I need to travel to the Olympic Trials (held in Eugene, Oregon), compete, and be in the top 3 finishers in order to make it to the Olympics a month later, in July of this year.
3. Lastly, I will travel to the Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, compete, and take home the gold!
However, I need financial support to be able to travel and to have my family travel with me. Aside from travel, I still need help purchasing practical equipment for my daily training like running shoes, sprint spikes, speed hurdles, etc.
As you can imagine, this all costs a pretty big penny, but having the support of those around me would mean the world to me. Every win for me is a win for you because it was your partnership that lifted me up. I am often posting about my journey to the Olympics through our social media accounts and I would love for you all to see how your donations are blessing me and my family. You can join me on my journey by subscribing to my YouTube channel and following me on Facebook and Instagram . Just type my name, Judah Hemmerly, into the search bar.
Thank you all for your donations and remember, whatever you do, do it from the heart.
Sincerely,
