Parrot Nest Lodge Disaster Relief

Flood Disaster Relief - Let’s pick Parrot Nest up and put her back together, together.
I moved to the little village of Bullet Tree Falls in western Belize back in 1998, raised two wonderful daughters and lived an amazing lifestyle running Parrot Nest, a little jungle lodge nestled in tropical gardens along the Mopan River. A place where family, friends and guest have come together over the
years to a home away from home, a place where one steps back in time, enjoys rustic comfort, nature and the great outdoors. A place to recharge, relax, enjoy great food and good company and to explore many of Belize’s amazing Mayan ruins, waterfalls and spectacular caves.

We find ourselves midst the struggles of the pandemic and having been closed due to rules and regulations for the past 8 months in a difficult state after the tropical depression from Hurricane Eta this past week slowly trudged its destructive way across Central America and wrecked havoc on our little piece of paradise just as we were about to reopen our doors in a couple of weeks.
I have been encouraged to open a GoFundMe page for anyone who would like to make a donation to help us get back on our feet otherwise I fear it is going to be a very long time before we can re open Parrot Nest.

No one here in our village or country could even imagine the flooding havoc that Eta was about to unleash on our beautiful land after its destruction as a slow moving category 4 hurricane across Honduras, Nicaragua and Guatemala, we knew we would get some side effects from the storm and a lot of rain, but no one expected such an intense and fast rise in waters flooding entire villages from south to west to east. We did our usual prep in putting all our belonging up high in accordance to previous floods that are common in our area but our efforts were not enough, the river rose far higher that it ever has, all the way up onto our tree house deck and flooded out 7 of our garden cabins where we are going
to have to replace beds and linens and curtains, heaters and pumps and electrical outlets and wires. It is going to take a massive cleanup effort by many people to put Parrot Nest back together.

Our goal is to raise enough funds in hopes to get back on our feet for the 1st
of January 2021. Our friends and neighbors even though everyone living along the rivers have suffered extensive water damage to their own property have graciously  been putting in efforts to come and help in so many ways. The out pour of love and offers for volunteers to come over has been overwhelmingly
appreciated and once we are able to move about the property and the river has receded enough to work on the land I will be accepting everyone’s offer for help.

Today November 9th was the first day we were able to get back to the property with the waters receding. The sight that Welcomed us at Parrot Nest was devastating and heartbreaking and immediately I knew I would not be able to do this on my own. I am posting an assortment of photos over the past week of the floods in our neighborhood that speak a thousand words in themselves.
Every dollar will help to put Parrot Nest back on its feet so that we can continue to offer jobs and scholarships to our local neighborhood families, and continue to provide a wonderful place for travelers.

A portion of these funds will also get donated out into the neighborhood to help where help is needed, these wonderful families have been intertwined in our lives for the past 22 years.

Parrot Nest has gone through extensive workshops through our tourism board and health ministry in order to be able to reopen in the safe corridors of Belize with a high focus on sanitizing and care to keep everyone as safe as possible when traveling in these challenging times.

Thank you all for your support and love!
