Parody 2020 is a series of political parody music videos regarding the Trump administration. Most of the songs will encourage voter participation in the upcoming elections. It has been a long road but the launch on our YouTube channel has now arrived. This all started with a lunch meeting I had with two close friends in early May. Sadly one passed in July and the other one in November. I’m the last one standing so this has now become as much a cause as a creative project for me.
I started writing parody lyrics to popular rock, R&B and Soul songs two years ago. I posted them on my Facebook page and some friends and family members encouraged me to find musicians to record them and create a YouTube channel.
I am fortunate to have found a talented group of local musicians and singers. Their ability to record the songs and create original songs adds variety to our channel. We are bringing on board some younger musicians so that our songs incorporate an even broader array of music styles.
These are music videos and I am fortunate to have on board an experienced videographer. Our videos have the musicians playing the songs along with imagery (GIFs, cartoons, etc.) appearing in the margins to support the lyrics. The song’s lyrics will scroll at the bottom of he screen and be shaded as the singing progresses as in karaoke. We want our viewers to sing along!
We upload a new music video every few weeks on YouTube and we currently have five songs recorded. I have funded most of the development effort along with contributions from family members of my two departed friends.
Please visit our website for further information and how to become involved. Each music video cost about $2,500 to produce and that’s with all the various participants providing their services at a deeply discounted rate. Donations of $25, $50 or $100 will go a long way to keep the project running through next November. Your support is appreciated through a donation and on social media. Should excess funds remain at the end of the project after paying all expenses, we will distribute them to Be The Match and UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. Parody 2020 does not intend to retain any profit. Let’s get out the vote in 2020!
