It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of our colleague and dear friend Phil Cartwright, following a shock cancer diagnosis only 8 weeks ago. Phil was known by many of you as the kind, knowledgeable, and familiar face that would greet you as you entered the CMW building contacted us on the phone. Gentle and helpful in nature, Phil’s easy and friendly approach ensured he built deep connections with customers, suppliers and colleagues alike.
Joining CMW in May 2004 as Technical Sales Assistant, Phil reached the incredible milestone of 20 years’ service with CMW in 2024, at the age of 56. Phil was drawn to CMW through an interest in Horticulture, at the end of a 3 year HND at Askham Bryan College in York, in which he studied plant production and business management. An intelligent and interested mind, Phil’s early education included 11 O-levels, 3 A-Levels, and a BSc(Hons) degree in Agricultural Economics, before he embarked on an early career as a trainee accountant during the 1990’s.
CMW is blessed to have had Phil in the team during the last 22 years. Throughout everything, Phil always remained unwaveringly ‘Phil’, those who knew him will understand what I mean by that! Diligent, committed, intelligent, genuine, helpful, and the oracle of so much CMW knowledge it was staggering. Phil will be thoroughly missed by us all and the office will not be the same without his reassuring presence. Our thoughts and best wishes are with Phil’s mother, father and sister, and all those who knew and loved him.
