Dear Family and Friends,
As an aspiring dancer I am always seeking new, enriching ways to improve my training. My most recent opportunity to grow as a dancer is to attend the Alonzo King LINES Summer Intensive, in San Francisco! After the most competitive audition process I have faced to date, I was selected for a program which offers me a straight path towards my future. This summer, I will be training at the LINES Ballet under famous choreographer Alonzo King and his faculty!!!
Alonzo King LINES has a world renowned Contemporary Ballet Company which performs at sold out theaters around the world. Additionally, LINES offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree Program. Training this summer with LINES will open doors for me to possibly earn my college degree and start my professional dance career. This would be a jaw dropping opportunity to work with them as a professional in their elite company and hopefully lead to me getting paid to do what I love. Months ago I never would have imagined this could even be a possibility, but thanks to my mother I was able to attend the Alonzo King LINES Discovery project at Blake High School, in January!
The Discovery Project was an intense four days where I learned so much in such a small amount of time. I fell in love with their different style and perspective on what ballet (and dance in general) is. The classes taught me that dance is more than just technique and precision, but emotion and artistry. Dance is about making movement to tell a story, even when just in class.
After this amazing experience I am so honored to have been selected via audition for a chance to further my training with them during a series of four intense weeks over the summer. However, as this does require me to leave home and stay in boarding, it is a costly opportunity. It would mean so very much to me if my friends and family would help me reach my goal of raising money, and allowing me to get the formal, elite training from this exciting summer intensive. As I grow closer to entering the professional dance world it becomes increasingly more important that I get the best dance education that I possibly can. Dance is the biggest part of what makes me who I am and I hope one day I can make it a career. Alonzo King LINES will bring me one step closer to this long term goal of mine. I am extremely confident that I will make leaps and bounds, both literally and figuratively, on my path to professional dancing if I attend this summer intensive. So I hope you can help me on my pursuit of my passion, dance. Thank you so very much!
