Parker's Healing & Recovery Fund
On Tuesday morning, November 20th (two days before Thanksgiving Day), my 12-year-old nephew was visiting his father in AZ and severely crashed his dirt bike while out for a joy ride. He broke his arm in three places, as well as his wrist, severed his femur bone, shattered his jaw and lost a lot of blood. Thank god he was wearing a helmet, which the doctors said saved his life, and incurred no brain injuries. Once stabilized, the medics rushed him to Phoenix Children's Hospital where he went through hours (and multiple days) of surgery. All of which went well in the end. A few plates in his arm, rods in his thigh, jaw wired shut, among other things -- however, the doctors believe he will eventually make a full recovery.
Parker is a type 1 diabetic, making everything twice as complicated, and we are extremely grateful for the level of care Parker is receiving at Phoenix Children's. Yesterday was rough (Friday 11/23), he underwent a blood transfusion on Friday, which helped, and got a little more sleep last night. The doctors hope to be able to release him (locally at first) in a couple of days, and we're not entirely sure when and how he will be transported back to his permanent home in California. While the road ahead is going to be long, arduous and painful for Parker, we have not doubt that with the right medical care he will return to the healthy, bright, active young boy that he has always been.
That being said, it's going to be extremely financially cumbersome and stressful for his mother (my sister), Samantha McCrary. She is a single mom, supporting two teenage boys on a teacher's salary (with minimal monthly child support). There will no doubt be a number of expensive that she herself will be unable to cover, including the amount of time off necessary to stay with Parker until he can return home and take care of him once he does. While family is rallying around and supporting Parker as best as we all can, I decided to start this Go Fund Me to offer my sister a little bit a support in the way of financial relief, as well as to ensure Parker receives everything necessary to remain comfortable through his healing process and receive the best care possible. As we all know, anything and everything helps, including prayers and well wishes, which I'm happy to send along as well. I will be in charge of allocating funds appropriately, and will keep everyone updated on Parker's progress, as well as how your contributions are supporting his journey.
Thank you!
With love and gratitude,
Meagan McCrary
