To know the Ackerman's is to LOVE them! They are one fierce family who are tightly bonded together yet love everyone around them so well. The "ACKpak" leaves their mark where ever they go, they are an unforgettable family. Now it's our turn to love on them! Parker is an incredible young man with a BRIGHT future ahead of him. In October, during one of his Canby football games he took a hit from behind and a players helmet nailed the back of his thigh. After a few weeks of PT that didn't relieve the soreness or swelling and the pain got worse to the point he can barely walk. At his first appt at Sports Medicine OR, his doctors drained 33ml of fluid from the hematoma and got additional X-ray and ultrasounds. Parker T then met with Dr. Halsey @ Doernbecher Children's hospital and had even more X-rays taken. At that spot the doctor found two tumors in his femur that are BENIGN, one toward his hip and one toward his knee. Dr. Halsey will not operate on either, in fact, said within five years they wont even show up on an X-ray. He further went on to say the tumors are in no way related to the myositis ossificans in left hip muscle or the hematoma in the left hamstring that were both caused from that blunt force trauma of taking the helmet to the back of his thigh. Over the next week the pain became more unbearable and upon his check up the ultrasound showed the hematoma filled back up and was bigger than it was originally. Dr. Trimberger ordered an MRI & referred Parker to Dr. Beals, knowing surgery was imminent. Parker met with Dr. Beals Monday morning who informed him that the MRI is showing that the fluid is now going into his femur so the surgery would need to be at a hospital to be able to access a lab. A CAT scan will be done Thursday AM to give the surgeon more to work with. The surgery will be complicated as the enormous size of the hematoma and the fact he has to go into the bone now. If the fluid is microbial then an infectious disease specialist will be added to Parker's care team. If not the Dr. says we cautiously watch this MOREL-LAVALLEE as Park moves forward.
Surgery is eminent and will take place this Friday @ 11AM, the goal of this surgery is to extract the growing hematoma and biposy the fluid. The results from this will take a week or so. Parker is incredibly active, being a multi-sport athlete an awesome drum player too, this isn't easy for him to sit on the sidelines and watch...He wants to PLAY! There will be a lot of intense physical therapy and with the "looming" possibility of more surgeries to follow...so his recovery will take some time. Please pray for Parker T as the unknowns of this surgery and findings are daunting to him and his family. The Ackerman's are self-employed and while they have insurance, they will be responsible for 30% of the total cost. I offered to do this for Rick & Jen and their family because they do so much for others and I simply want to bless them during this time of uncertainty and show Parker just how much his community loves and supports him. Please join me in praying for Parker T, send him messages of encouragement and if you feel led to contribute, you may do so here.
