Park Fundraiser
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Michael, and i am organising this fundraising page to support the Mags On Ramps Skatepark in Halifax.
Sadly, through no fault of their own, the park has encountered a very unexpected electricity bill! costing the park £15,000. As im sure you can all understand this unexpected cost has added yet more stress to the owners of the park who already have a challenging work load balancing the books during this cost of living crisis that we are ALL in. These unexpected bills may possibly lead to the end of our local indoor Skatepark.
I began working for the park part time in December 2019 having no history of riding or working on the various different disciplines that enter the park such as Roller Blades, Scooters, Skateboards or BMX's. The owners of the park were kind and willing enough to help me out of a personal situation and offered me a role.
Since then, i have really come to admire and love the job that this local quirky skatepark has had on the local and international community. The park has recently celebrated its 11th anniversary since its doors opened in 2012, and i pray it can celebrate another 10+ years.
This is more than just a Skatepark for those of you who were like me and knew nothing about the park prior to visiting. This place has had more than 20,000 people through its door from all walks of life. In my 4 years of working here, i have met some amazing kids who have really turned their lives of crime around and can also use the park as a safe haven away from their troubles. Adults openly admit that this park also brings them joy, keeps them fit, and keeps them on the straight and narrow. We have recently had Andys Man Club visit the park to show their support and reach out to those who would like to talk, which not many understandably feel comfortable doing.
This park is a second home for many of our customers to come and unwind after school, after work, after lifes stresses at home. This park encourages family and community spirit, and nobody rides alone!
The long and short of this is, the landlord is in charge of the energy supply. Monthly Automated meter readings. They received the outrageous bill after the meters were found to be faulty. This has left the park with a large amount of debt. As an employee who loves what this park gives back to the community, i am fuming that nothing more can be done!
The owners of the park are very proud people and do not like asking for help, but given what is potentially at skate... I hope the Skatepark community can come together and assist where possible by making any kind of contribution to help us all in lowering this financial burden.
Thank You !
