Paris Marathon for Alzheimer's

In recent years, two of my closest family members have suffered with Alzheimer's.

A cruel disease that gradually strips a person of everything. Memories of love and laughter now stuck in a thick black fog. The warmth of a human soul slowly turning cold. Vacant eyes, staring into darkness. Everything that makes us human, taken away and never returned.

This is the reality for an estimated 982,000 people in the UK alone. Not to mention the further impact of those cases on their closest relatives, who helplessly watch as their family member fades away in front of them.

Research suggests that 40% of Alzheimer's cases are preventable. There are 3 main rules to help with prevention. Heart health, staying sharp and keeping connected.

A marathon seemed to embody all 3. Pushing physical fitness and endurance to its limits. Sleeping, recovering and educating yourself for the best results. And when it's all said and done, sharing the precious moment of race day with thousands of others, all running for their own unique reasons.

Before we think about curing Alzheimer's, we need to be taking steps to decrease our chances of getting it in the first place.

Help me in raising some money for a brilliant charity, let's spread those 3 simple rules and hope that one day, there will be a generation free of Alzheimer's.

Thanks. Jacob
