For those of you who do not know, our parents were deported in 2008. When my parents were taken away, they still had two minors at home, my sister was 15 and I was 16. We were left behind due to our parents wanting us to finish school in the U.S. We are four siblings, three of us are U.S. citizens and one of us was born in Mexico and is here through the DACA program. Due to my sister being born in Mexico she has not been able to see my parents in over 15 years. We lost a lot of material things when our parents were taken from us, but most importantly we lost what we called home. Without going into detail, the four of us went through many things in those 15 years on our own. From homelessness to living all together in a one-bedroom apartment at one point, and even having kids. We have missed our parents every single day they have been gone.

My parents have done so much for us and gave up everything for it to be all taken away in a second. My parents missed out on their kids' graduations; they missed every single grandkid's childbirth and many other milestones their kids lived through. It has taken us a lot to write this down to convey how we feel about what we have lived through as a family, but we all look forward to a future where we are all reunited again.

I am writing a bit of our story to ask for help. We are currently working on getting our parents back and as some of you may know, lawyer and legal fees are expensive. A part of me feels embarrassed to ask, but I miss my mom and dad being near us. I miss being able to have them be a call away. I want to celebrate every holiday with them, I want them to experience them being grandparents and having a sense of family again. Para los que no lo saben, nuestros padres fueron deportados en el año 2008. Cuando se llevaron a mis padres, todavía tenían dos menores en casa, mi hermana tenía 15 años y yo 16. Nos quedamos atrás porque nuestros padres querían que terminaramos la escuela en Estados Unidos. Somos cuatro hermanos, tres de nosotros somos ciudadanos estadounidenses y uno de nosotros nació en México y está aquí a través del programa DACA. Debido a que mi hermana nació en México, no ha podido ver a mis padres en más de 15 años. Perdimos muchas cosas materiales cuando nos quitaron a nuestros padres, pero lo más importante es que perdimos lo que llamábamos hogar. Sin entrar en detalles, los cuatro pasamos por muchas cosas en esos 15 años solos. Desde la falta de vivienda hasta vivir todos juntos en un apartamento de una habitación en un momento dado, e incluso tener hijos. Hemos extrañado a nuestros padres todos los días que estuvieron ausentes.

Mis padres han hecho mucho por nosotros y lo han dejado todo para que nos lo quitaran todo en un segundo. Mis padres se perdieron las graduaciones de sus hijos; se perdieron el parto de cada nieto y muchos otros hitos que vivieron sus hijos. Nos ha costado mucho escribir esto para transmitir lo que sentimos por lo que hemos vivido como familia, pero todos esperamos con ansias un futuro en el que todos estemos reunidos nuevamente.

Estoy escribiendo un poco de nuestra historia para pedir ayuda. Actualmente estamos trabajando para recuperar a nuestros padres y, como algunos de ustedes sabrán, los honorarios de abogados son costosos. Una parte de mí se siente avergonzada de preguntar, pero extraño que mi mamá y mi papá estén cerca de nosotros. Extraño poder tenerlos a una llamada de distancia. Quiero celebrar cada día festivo con ellos, quiero que vuelvan a sentir que son abuelos y que tienen un sentido de familia.
