Parents House Flooded ! Anything helps

Hello friends,

I am starting this Go Fund Me because of a devastating flood that has turned my parents’ lives upside down. It was not Hurricane Ian (my prayers go out to all of you); it was a slab leak that has made their home uninhabitable.

They had driven 580 miles to visit my sister who had just given birth to my parents’ first grandson. When they were helping my sister, they received a call from their neighbor that water was coming out of their house. The whole house had flooded!

Not knowing what to do, my parents called their insurance company. The insurance company had them hire a restoration company. They drove the 11 hours to return home (earlier than planned). The home they returned to was not the home they left.

Nearly every wall in their house was cut 2’ high. Carpet was removed. Insulation was pulled out of the exterior walls. Door frames were cut. Cabinets and vanities were torn out. You can see from one bathroom into the next bathroom. They cannot say “there’s no place like home.” They have been displaced. It is no longer a place they can lay their heads down at.

This in and of itself would not be so unbearable if their insurance company had not denied their claim. They live a modest life in a 47-year-old house. The pipes are old and their insurance company doesn’t cover pipes that have wear and tear, corrosion, deterioration, electrolysis… The pipes are under a cement slab and their insurance company doesn’t cover slab leaks. They have paid for house insurance for over 30 years with this company and it is not being a “good neighbor.” They thought they were covered by their insurance for situations like this. It is insufferable.

They have had general contractors come in as well as plumbers. Every single one of them has said things like –

This is a catastrophe!

This is a major disaster!

This was a major flood!

I didn’t realize the devastation of your house when you called me.

I can’t believe the insurance isn’t covering this! This isn’t right!

My parents are looking for donations to restore their house so they can live in it. My parents and I humbly ask for your support.
