O último troço litoral selvagem de Portugal, um tesouro único de habitats dunares e praias pristinas que sobreviveram até hoje, está prestes a desaparecer - assim será se nada fizermos.

Os 40km da Costa Azul que se mantiveram acessíveis a qualquer um para usufruir de uma natureza costeira selvagem, cada vez mais rara no mundo e nos dias de hoje, estão agora completamente ameaçados por um projecto sigiloso, que tornará a região num destino do golfe e de turismo de luxo para uma elite mundial.
Este financiamento colectivo em específico serve para tentar impedir um dos mega-projectos eminentes com mais impactes ambientais provados: o resort "Na Praia".
Como o nome ironicamente indica, este resort vai ser construído inteiramente em cima de dunas, reconhecidas pela sua biodiversidade e excelente estado de conservação, mesmo na frente oceânica. O Estudo de Impacte Ambiental é conclusivo: “o impacte ‘eliminação de habitats'” é “negativo, directo, certo, permanente, irreversível, de magnitude forte e muito significativo”.
Localizar-se-á na Península de Tróia, uma fina restinga de areia que protege o Estuário do Sado do Oceano Atlântico. Os terrenos vizinhos são a Norte, Soltróia - um grande aldeamento de casas de férias que já existe desde os anos 70 - e a Sul, a pequena Reserva Botânica das Dunas de Tróia, pertencente à Reserva Natural do Estuário do Sado (RNES).
Uma reserva botânica é o mais alto nível de protecção ambiental terrestre em Portugal e esta é a única parte da RNES que protege estas dunas oceânicas com habitats prioritários, mas não foi delimitada com área suficiente. Desde o início que houve um lobby para excluir o terreno em que o resort será construído, chamado UNOP 7 e 8, da delimitação da Reserva, através de um programa para edificar o maior pólo turístico da Europa em metade desta península dunar, ainda durante o Estado Novo. Esta ideia absurda subsiste actualmente no Plano de Urbanização de Tróia: uma peça de ordenamento que não serve os interesses dos cidadãos, não se guia pela ciência nem se preocupa com o pouco ambiente selvagem e saudável que nos resta - apenas existe satisfazendo interesses económicos privados.
A dona do projecto "Na Praia" é uma das pessoas mais ricas do mundo, Sandra Ortega, herdeira do império Inditex, ao qual pertence, por exemplo, a ZARA. Todo o processo de licenciamento ambiental sofreu inúmeras irregularidades, que exigem investigação e julgamento em tribunal.
O licenciamento do projecto ainda não está completamente concluído, apesar da Câmara Municipal de Grândola ter passado uma licença precária de estaleiro no mesmo dia em que esta Plataforma Dunas Livres apresentou uma denúncia às autoridades do início de obras ilegais no local, com dois meses de terraplanagem de dunas e destruição total da vegetação, sem sequer alvará de construção.
A destruição de 370 hectares de dunas está a começar.
Só os cidadãos unidos a podem parar.
O valor angariado destina-se a custear a luta legal que vamos travar para impedir este erro de continuar e proteger definitivamente o que resta da costa portuguesa.

#Porque a Natureza Preservada é o Verdadeiro Luxo

São 8 os mega-empreendimentos que a Associação Dunas Livres identificou em 2020: quatro deles sobre dunas na frente oceânica, quatro com campo de golfe, seis com dimensões superiores às localidades da zona - Comporta, Carvalhal e Melides.
São imensos os impactes ambientais e sociais:
→ destruição completa de habitats dunares com espécies de flora raras, ameaçadas e supostamente protegidas por lei;
→ destruição dos sistemas dunares que protegem a terra interior dos riscos costeiros de tempestades e inundação devido à subida do nível médio da água do mar;
→ esgotamento do aquífero local numa região que sofre consecutivamente com seca extrema;
→ deslocação da população local pela especulação imobiliária;
→ privatização do acesso às praias para o cidadão comum;
→ migração de centenas de trabalhadores precários para as obras temporárias;
→ perpetuação de empregos apenas sazonais na região que não permitem a fixação de população;
→ apropriação social e gentrificação de uma região inteira para uma elite.

The last wild section of coastline in Portugal, a unique treasure of dune habitats and pristine beaches that have survived until today, is about to disappear – if we do nothing.
The 40km of the Blue Coast that have remained accessible to any of us to enjoy wild costal nature, something rarer and rarer in today’s world, is now completely threatened by a secretive project, which will turn the region into a gold and luxury tourism destination for a world elite.
This specific crowdfunding campaign will try to stop one of the imminent mega-projects with the most proven environmental impact: the “Na Praia” (“On the Beach”) resort.
As the name ironically indicates, this resort will be built entirely on top of dunes, recognised for their biodiversity and excellent conservation status, right on the ocean front. The Environmental Impact Study is conclusive: “the ‘habitat elimination’ impact is ‘negative, direct, certain, permanent, irreversible, of strong magnitude and very significant.”
It will be located in the Tróia Peninsula, a thin sandbank that protects the Sado Estuary from the Atlantic Ocean. The neighbouring lands are, to the north, Soltóia – a big holiday village that has existed since the 70s – and to the south, the small Botanical Reserve of the Dunes of Tróia, belonging to the Natural Reserve of the Sado Estuary (NRSE).
A botanical reserve is the highest level of land environmental protection in Portugal, and this is the only part of the NRSR that protects these ocean dunes with priority habitats, but it was not defined to enough extent. Since the Estado Novo (Salazar’s regime), there has been a lobby to exclude the land in which the resort will be built, called UNOP 7 and 8, from the limits of the Reserve, through a program to build the biggest touristic centre of Europe in half of this dune peninsula. This absurd idea lives on through the Urban Development Plan of Tróia: a piece of land-use planning that does not serve the interests of the citizens, is not guided by science and does not care about what little wild and healthy environment we have left – it only exists to satisfy private economic interests.
The owner of the “Na Praia” project is one of the richest people in the world, Sara Ortega, heir of the Inditex empire, to which ZARA, for example, belongs. The whole process of environmental licensing has had countless irregularities, which demand investigation and court rulings.
The licensing of the project is not yet fully finished, even though the Municipality of Grândola has already given a precarious construction site license on the same day that the Plataforma Dunas Livres presented a complaint to the authorities of illegal construction on the site already, with two months-worth of earthworks flattening the dunes and total destruction of the vegetation, without even the building permit.
The destruction of 370 hectares of dunes is just beginning.
Only united citizens can stop it.
The contributions from this crowdfunding will be used to fund the legal battle that we will fight to stop this mistake from going forward and to conclusively protect what is left of the Portuguese coastline.

There are 8 mega-ventures that the Associação Dunas Livres identified in 2020: four are over dunes on the ocean front, four with golf courts, and six with more significant dimensions than the towns in the area - Comporta, Carvalhal and Melides.
The environmental and social impacts are many:
→ complete destruction of dune habitats with rare species of flora, threatened and supposedly protected by law;
→ destruction of dune systems that protect inland from the coastal risk of storms and floods due to the rise of the level of seawater;
→ depletion of the local aquifer in a region that suffers consecutively of extreme draught;
→ displacement of the local population due to real estate speculation;
→ privatization of the access to the beaches for the ordinary citizen;
→ migration of hundreds of precarious workers for the temporary construction works;
→ perpetuation of solely seasonal jobs in the region, which don’t allow for the fixation of the population;
→ social appropriation and gentrification of a whole region for an elite.
