When we rescued Scrappy as a senior dog nearly 5 years ago, we knew that one of us would love him. I, Brett, never owned a dog before and I thought that I would like him and that it would be fun to have him around. I also wanted to give him a better life than the cage he was currently living in. I used to think that when someone would say they would choose their dogs life over that of a human, they were crazy. Now, after nearly 5 years of having my son in my life and loving him more than I ever thought I could, there are few people that I would choose to save before him. One thing that I would never choose over him is money. It doesn’t matter how much money it costs to keep him alive, as long as he’s still enjoying life and wants to be alive, I’m going to figure out a way to pay for whatever he needs. When we found out he had bone cancer and that the surgery was going to be $4000, put it on my cc. It was the third time he’s had cancer and he bounced back seamlessly the first two times. This time has been no different. About two weeks after the amputation, he was back to his playful self, jumping on the bed and bulldozing his way in between my fiancé and I anytime we start to cuddle, jumping around and playing with other dogs (including his brother, who used to annoy him). Now, chemotherapy is the cost. After 3 rounds of cancer and a leg amputation, my credit cards are pretty much maxed out. Right now, it Scrappy is currently doing Chemo and is his hind legs are paralyzed but he remains his happy, go lucky self. Anything you can donate we would be incredibly grateful for. This time, there won’t be another round of cancer. It’s terminal and we can only buy time. But, with chemo, we’re buying an additional 6 months (with a 20% chance of buying 18 months). Knowing Scrappy, we’re buying at least 18 months.
