2026 Paralympic Hopeful

My name is Derick A.Byrd I'm a cancer survivor and above-knee amputee, and I've been snowboarding for as long as I've had one leg. I want to give everything I have to this sport and spend the rest of my life working in the adaptive ski and ride community. I'm asking for help, so I can focus on snowboarding this winter and set myself up in a mountain town in Colorado to train and reach my true potential as an athlete.

I had recently been invited out to Breckenridge, Colorado, to train with former and current paralympic team members and paralympic coaches, as I previously met a few of their coaches while I was an adaptive snowboard instructor at the Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center.

I have recently been invited to go out and train on a regular basis with Team Utah, a high level snow sports team in Salt Lake City. 

I want to use this opportunity to show that I belong and am one of the best athletes on the planet. One leg or otherwise.
