Hi,
I created this fundraising to help my friend Diego (who is paraplegic) to practice paragliding more autonomously and with more confort than how he does it now.
A paragliding wheelchair costs about 4000-5000 €uros, is not foldable and you can just remove the wheels to try to put it your car.
For now Diego is launch by his friend and familly and land on his ass, it is risky for his legs, pelvis and backbone. He cannot afford to buy a 4000€ wheelchair AND the car big enough to put it in.
Our goal, because I'm gonna work with him as much as possible on this project, is to first make something that can be disassemble and put in a car by himself. A wheelchair with shock absorbers for the landing, that can be used to get from the car to the take off, and from the landing to the car.
I'm seeing it as multiple steps:
- first the chassis and how to attach a paragliding seat to it, or making a paragliding seat
- second add to this chassis the wheels and a way to move, probably an electric motor with a small battery to make it not to heavy
- make the same the lightest possible
I put 2000€ because I think it's the minimum budget we need as we also will probably make mistakes.
If you want to participate but cannot give money you can also help with advice, or even better with parts.
We will probably look for:
- wheels: free wheels 16" or even better wheels with hub motor 16" and controller, both with fat tyres for the landings on sand or mud
- paragliding seat for someone 180-185 that we can rip appart or repair
- welding stuff, station whatever the type that works, mask, etc...
- mountain bike shock absorbers
- whatever you think we could use for this project
