Teaser Trailer:
I am a Scottish independent feature film producer of major studio-financed and studio-acquired films like Rob Roy and The Flying Scotsman.
That makes me sound rich. In financial terms I am certainly not that (producers are only rich as characters in movies!), but I am blessed to be a lifelong supporter of Glasgow Celtic Football Club.
Celtic literally enjoys the most profound and moving origin story in all of football. The club was founded in 1887 by Brother Walfrid, a missionary teacher in the Catholic Marist order.
Having survived as a child the cataclysmic Irish famine of the 1840s he later found himself teaching the children of the poor Irish in the teeming slums of Glasgow. The city was the closest refuge for Irish refugees fleeing poverty and landlordism in their homeland.
Hunger blighted the lives of all his pupils but Walfrid had a brilliant idea. He would exploit the exploding mass popularity of football to fund the Meal Tables he had already set up to feed the starving kids.
On the 6th November 1887 in a meeting in St Mary's Church (where I was baptised) Celtic became his creation, and it immediately emerged as not just a sporting club but as a cohering centre and a beacon of pride and aspiration for the entire beleagured community.
In the background of our authentic story the battle to free Ireland of 800 years of English rule and oppression rages on. As Walfrid struggles to take care of his flock he also finds himself battling to save the life and the soul of a spirited young revolutionary who is determined to fight fire with burning fire...
This is in every way a true story...
The project has a wonderful script and a superb director attached to realise it. It has taken years to reach this stage but the prospects are now looking very promising.
How the money will be spent:
Having raised the development finance to bring it to this point more funding is now needed to secure leading cast and production finance. That is the purpose of this GFM effort.
If and when the film is made a significant proportion of any final profits will be directed into The Celtic Foundation, the charitable arm of the club that continues to do the great work begun by its founder.
This film is a monument to the brave founders, and a gift for every single Celtic player and fan who has helped to create and sustain this magnificent institution. It will be seen all over the world and the reputation of this unique club will be even greater as a result.
Your contribution will hopefully help to make that happen. Keep the faith and it will...
Hail Hail, the Celts are here!
Please be aware that although every effort will be made to achieve production there is no guarantee that the film will be produced.
