Jay Kennedy is 78 and just lost his home to the devastating wildfire that destroyed the town of Paradise. He has no insurance. When the fire came, he lost everything except his dog and his truck, and doesn't have anything to fall back on. Please help him get back on his feet!
Jay has always been "Dad" to me ~ the most stable and loving and generous parent I had, when my mom and dad weren't. When I was 2, he married my mom and tried to adopt me. He even paid for my biological father's expensive dental work.
After moving around for the first two years of my life with my single mother, I lived with Jay and my mom in a real house, with friends and toys. I was a Girl Scout there, and Jay helped me have a normal life.
My mom decided to leave when I was 8, and took me with her. She left Jay with the task of raising their son, David, by himself, when David was not yet 2 years old. Jay was David's Dad and Mom from then on, and is still a Dad to me.
My mom began drinking again ~ and Jay was always the rock I could count on. He was always there with a big hug and good advice. After my mom gave up custody of me and I went to live with my biological dad, David and I would still visit my mom. One summer, Jay drove the 300 miles to get us, when I called to tell him my mom was too messed up to be responsible anymore. She has made up for any hurts and always loved us, but Jay was a huge blessing in our lives.
After college, I had nowhere to store my things, and Jay immediately bought me a storage container and had it installed at his house, which I used for years. I spent one summer living there, after traveling, and it was so nice to have somewhere to be. He always offered me a home. Jay is an inspiration~ always wearing colorful clothing and hair, and making strangers laugh. He loves blues, jazz, and rock music, history, philosophy, old cars and quirky things. He's the only person I ever knew who had an upside-down Christmas tree.
Jay worked decades at a finance company until the mid-2000s, and then his retirement pension was stolen, which he had been counting on. That was a huge blow to him. He sold his house, which was underwater, and used his savings at the time to buy a simple mobile home in Paradise to retire in.
When I was 28, I tried to buy a foreclosed house. When a potential lender for part of the money fell through, I called Jay in tears, and he immediately offered me the amount I needed to get my house. That house burned two years ago in the Lake County wildfires. I wish that I could give him that money back now. I could never have gotten a house without him.
If anyone deserves help right now, I know Jay does. He's the biggest hearted and most generous father I could have had, and doesn't have anything to fall back on now. His truck needs fixing and I would love to see him get something to feel safe and happy again. I am so relieved he got out of the fire alive, and I'd like to see him have a comfortable time as he grows older.
Note: Since Jay does not have a physical address right now, which is required, I will be withdrawing the funds and providing them to Jay outside of Go Fund Me.
