A little over a year ago my parents purchased their dream home in a community they loved. Last week they had to leave it all behind as they were evacuated along with nearly 30,000 others from their home in Paradise, from what has now become the deadliest and most destructive fire in California history. They have spent the last several days helping others where they could. Like many of those evacuated they have lost so much. They were lucky to have insurance but they are just now finding out just how much insurance will not cover. The uncovered expenses are piling up quickly.
Evacuees of Paradise still don’t have a lot of information, but what they do know is even if your property somehow survived the fire, because the water treatment plant was destroyed there is no water. Other Utilities are down as well. For this reason nobody will be allowed back to live in Paradise for as much as 6 months or longer. If your home is a total rebuild it won’t happen for 1-3 years. That’s a lot of time that my parents and other evacuees will have to somehow cover housing and other costs uncovered by their insurance until they are able to return home. They are hoping to return to Paradise the moment they are allowed in order to assist in the rebuilding of their community and sheltering those in need.
Mark is a retired San Diego County Deputy Sheriff and Clariece still works but has to make employment changes due to the fact her home base is no longer accessible. During the evacuation when Mark could have been evacuating his own home, he was evacuating the home of their neighbors who were out of town subsequently rescuing the neighbors animals and motor home. The both of them have been through hell and back the last few days but would never say so.
The proceeds of this campaign would go toward helping with their mounting uncovered expenses. Any additional funds will go toward helping additional victims, as they are very active in the assistance of those from their now destroyed community.
