We have lost our homes, our community, and our childhood
On November 8th, 2018 I received one of the most terrifying calls I've ever had to experience. My aunt and the rest of my family were scrambling to flee my hometown of Paradise, CA. As she was driving, she detailed the sights she was witnessing: cars catching fire, families abandoning their vehicles and escaping on foot, and flames surrounding them. I am incredibly grateful my family escaped unscathed.
Unfortunately, the harrowing escape of the community is only the beginning of this ordeal. In the days following we have learned that not only did our family lose our home, but many of my friends and their families were also being forced to come to terms with this reality. The homes we grew up in, the forest we ran around in, the community that had supported us through our youth, were completely destroyed.
The thought of starting over is daunting. Many of my friends are in desperate need of assistance. Most only escaped with the clothes on their backs. In the coming days, they will need clothes, shelter, and everyday items to help sustain them through these first weeks. Any support to these families would be greatly appreciated as I know they are hurting, confused, and devastated.
These families, among others, will directly benefit from your contributions:
Ginger Bone
Joseph Estes
Bryanna Rickards
Nathan Sakschewski
Mary Wilson
With love,
Christy Rhine
