Sani Maurou-Dikeni died suddenly and unexpectedly on 5/29/23 in Seattle, WA. He leaves behind his wife Rachida and 5 children Rahamatou (16), Zaynab (14), Nadia (13), Alpha (5), and Heiratou (2). They are Togolese and here without any family or the Togo community. Sani was the sole provider of the family as a taxi driver. Rachida has always been a stay-at-home mom. The loss of this family's father is devastating both emotionally and financially. We do not know how they will provide for themselves, and they have no other family in the States. Our goal with this fundraiser is to cover funeral costs, pay her husbands debts, and hopefully raise extra for the family to support themselves for 1-2 years until they can figure out new options for income. We have grocery deliveries being managed through signup genius. A caring bridge is coming to help coordinate meeting other needs such as childcare, and transportation, The funeral cost alone is $9,050. She will be using $26,000 of this go fund me money to pay off her husband's debts. Any support, resources, or suggestions for help are appreciated.
We are truly blessed and grateful for the generous support this family is receiving. As much time as we can give her before she has to start supporting herself is ideal. We are working with advisors to figure out the best way to manage these funds to sustain the family long-term without losing access to social services. We have a few other asks that perhaps may be met by our amazing community. 1. We need to find an affordable or pro bono attorney to assist with closing down her husband's transport business and advise on financial issues. 2. She has no family car at the moment, its not urgent, as she has no desire to go anywhere and children's transport for the last days of school has been arranged, we also have a family working on helping us sell the transport vans and helping to look for an 8 passenger SUV that will be extremely reliable. Any suggestions or donations of a reliable vehicle would be welcome. 3. We have considered the idea of having her keep one transport vans and finding a driver to hire and possibly consider continuing the business this would be a learning curve and would require some logistical advice and help. 4. Ideas or resources around ways for her to support herself and her children moving forward, this is complex as she has always been at home caring for the children and would likely need skill training but we believe the community will come to assist her with this. A business she can do herself rather than being employed may be ideal. One of her skills is that she speaks French fluently and understands/and speaks English well.
