Papa needs a helping hand...

A few weeks ago, after rushing my Papa to the emergency hospital for high blood pressure, I got a call I had always known would come one day, just not this early in life. Arriving at the hospital, I found him tucked in an emergency bed. He held my hand, looked up at me and said, ’It’s no good; I have cancer. It’s all over my body.’

Amid grief and shock, my priority has quickly shifted to making the next steps of his life as comfortable and easy as possible. Being an artist all his life hasn’t always afforded him this kind of lifestyle.

At the very least, we hold hopes to stop any further spreading and prolong his life.

He is already living with diabetes and a heart condition and has now been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer. Cancer that’s spread from his lungs to his liver and into his intestines.

Papa has good spirits about him, and it's evident his imagination is still alive and well. The day we learned of his diagnosis, in hospital as the doctor was explaining the scan results to me. I held a quiet smile inside, listening to one of Papa’s responses to the findings, “But I have an exhibition coming up; I have paintings to finish”. His body may need extra care, but his artistic mind is very capable and ready to create.

Raising money for him will help me give him additional support and access to care so he can live out his days with the best quality of life possible.
