Greetings everyone! So as many of you know, on April 5th 2021, my father underwent a craniotomy to remove a meningioma (non-cancerous tumor) in his brain. All went successfully and less than 24 hours later my dad was discharged and sent home. On that same day later in the evening, I rushed my dad to the emergency room due to pounding headaches even his painkillers couldn't heal. He was later sent home, and everything seemed normal. On the night of Wednesday, April 7th, we noticed my dad's speech had gotten a little slurred and left-sided weakness (he couldn't properly maneuver his left leg, had difficulty pointing and raising his left arm, as well as looking toward the left) Although his right side was unaffected, we kept a watchful eye until the morning. On the morning of Thursday, April 8th, we noticed my dad had trouble eating and drinking, we then promptly asked him to smile and noticed a significant droop on the left side of his face. Now concerned, my family and I called the Neuro center and was told to rush him to the emergency room. What we thought were normal side effects of a craniotomy, turned out to be a more serious case of unknown back to back seizures. After multiple CT scans and MRIs, stroke was ruled out (THANK GOODNESS). The neurosurgeon suggested doing a few more invasive procedures to figure out if the seizures were caused by an infection or some sort of disruption in his brain. My father has since been in the SICU, intubated (from the mouth), and is on a feeding tube. After countless seizure medications, antibiotics, and being sedated, my father has been seizure free since Wednesday, April 14th. Slowly but surely my dad has been able to open his eyes, wiggle his toes, and obey simple commands. Not entirely sure how long patients should be observed/remain in the hospital after a brain surgery, but we greatly appreciate any advice on how to combat these expenses! We all know the cost of a hospital stay isn't cheap (let alone the ICU), and as much as my family and I want to do what we can for my dad, we came to the conclusion that asking for some help would be better than none. My family and I are eternally grateful for the support we've gotten these past few weeks, and we appreciate any amount! We ask that you continue to keep my dad in your prayers, especially on his long road to recovery!
