In 2009 Papa J had a vision. As a musician who loved the Blues it seemed natural to turn his passion into a tangible reality that could be shared with other musicians. And the Orange County Blues Society was born. In order to support his passion Papa J worked full time at his regular job. As the OCBS has yet to make a profit it requires Papa J and wife Kathy's personal funds to keep it afloat. 
The OCBS has promoted many charitable events that have not only provided venues for numerous local Blues musicians but have been able to donate funds and goods to charitable organizations too numerous to mention.
In late January he had back surgery. It was supposed to be a quick recovery. An unexpected noscomial infection quickly changed all that. He has been in and out of the ICU, on and off life support, in and out of critical care and step down critical care and is currently in rehab trying to get back to being his old self.
He has not been able to work throughout all of this and has expenses that are quickly compounding and getting to the tipping point. Friends and the music community have come together to present a benefit Blues concert on March 26th at the Main Street Restaurant in Yorba Linda.
