Help Panick the Puppy!

Donation protected

My dog Panick is only a little over 1 year old.  He is still so young and yet he has been in pain most of his life. At around 8 months, he was diagnosed with hip dysplasia, a genetic condition affecting how his hip joint sits in the socket. His socket is not much more than a shallow dip in the bone. Most dogs don’t show symptoms or pain until they are older, however, Panick is so severe that 3 separate vets have recommended a double hip replacement. He has trouble sitting without falling right over, getting up from laying down, and his back legs are underdeveloped and weak. His favorite thing to do is run all around our quarter-acre yard but right now every time he does it exacerbates his pain, oftentimes sinking to the ground mid-run. Bless his heart he tries anyway. He is only 1, but his legs are basically hanging off his hip sockets, to use the veterinarian's words, and he has already developed joint degeneration. He will only get worse from here, with the eventual possibility of losing mobility if he does not get hip replacement surgery.

I am a Masters student at Stony Brook School of Social Welfare, in my last year before graduating with my BSW. In other words, I do not have anything near $20,000. I got Panick in May 2020 from a rescue here in NY called Peyton’s Safe Haven (shout out!) after months of lockdown during the first covid wave. I, like so many others, was not coping well. I have an autoimmune disease so I all but isolated myself those first months, and Panick gave me a reason to go outside, to laugh, and to go on working and studying because after all, I have to provide for my puppy now.

I never thought he would need what will amount to give or take about 10,000 dollar surgery x2 (per hip) a year into his little life. I am heartbroken that my baby is in so much pain and that when it came to it, I can't provide for him what he needs to thrive.

I did have pet insurance, but the claim for his X-rays were denied and I was informed that if it ended up being hip dysplasia it wouldn't be covered at all since it is genetic. I applied for a Care Card, but being a student I have a lot of loans and I was denied, a regular loan is also not an option. I’m saving up of course as well, however, I want to have him get at least one hip done by the end of the summer so I can devote the majority of my time to care for him as he recovers.

My goal right now is 10k, which will cover one hip and a little bit of aftercare. Any donation is appreciated .50 cents is better than no cents after all. And if you cannot donate right now I totally get it, it’s a pandemic, and times are rough, so sharing my gofundme with your followers is just as helpful.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope your day is wonderful.
