Memorial for Dad ended by Pancreatic Cancer
This is my Dad, Lee Nelson.
Early Sunday morning on November 7, 2021 my Dad passed away in his sleep with no pain.
This week has been a whirlwind of handling everything left behind after a 20 month fight with cancer.
He went out in his own terms at home with no pain.
Although he still wanted to do one last trip to Disneyland, that will not happen now.
Perhaps we can take the grandkids for him one more time. But for now we will wait to have a memorial until next spring/summer when the entire family can be together for the burial in the family plot in Idaho.
Thank you to everyone that supported us through this and continue to support us.

——Previous Update —-
At the end of another round of chemotherapy. Awaiting an PET scan this week to see what the future has in store. The trial drug did nothing to shrink the tumors in his lymph nodes behind his lungs. Honestly it’s time to begin to think about the making the coming weeks, months, and year filled with good memories and time with grandkids.
We would like to take Dad to Disneyland one last time with his grandkids before things are so bad he can’t enjoy it.
Thank you for your consideration.
-Previous Information-
He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer after his physical symptoms finally forced him to go to the emergency room. After a stay in the hospital , with some blood work and initial scans complete, the doctor order a PET Scan with radioactive contrast to identify and confirm the cancer diagnosis. He was enrolled in a cancer study at the Virginia G Piper Cancer Center, is receiving Medicare along with his Part B, so the treatment costs have been minimal, but other expenses have been more than the family can provide on a long term basis.
Meanwhile, Covid-19 shut down Arizona, and his doctors said he cannot return to work due to his condition and in preparation for the 9 weeks of Chemotherapy and 2 weeks of Radiation as part of his treatment plan. Things went well for him during chemo and radiation treatments and he underwent Whipple Surgery for the removal of the tumor, gall bladder, duodenum, and lower part of the stomach. This surgery went well, but the care center the hospital transferred him too was just shy of a disaster. While he did avoid a COVID-19 exposure, He was admitted to the hospital by his gastrointestinal surgeon where he underwent a second surgery to stitch his belly back up so he could complete healing and rehabilitation.
He has just completed 9 more weeks of Chemo and will spend the next 5 years getting scanned every 3 months. Navigating the Covid-19 relief programs has been treacherous and not helpful. There seems to be some confusion about losing employment due to Covid-19. If it were not for Covid-19, he would have been able to work part time. But the threat of Covid-19 to a cancer patient is just to much to risk. With no employment, and only receiving Social Security, Lee is in need of a financial leg up to get started on recovering at home so he can return to part time employment after a vaccine is widely available. In the mean time, he would like to work online as a customer care representative.
Thank you for your consideration to help get my Dad back on his fee
