Hi, I am Peter Davidson - I'm 62 years old and want to raise money for two cancer charities - 'Pretty n Pink' (Breast Cancer) and NIPANC (Northern Ireland Pancreatic Cancer). My motivation is having seen my mother, my wife and several friends and work colleagues, suffer from these awful diseases . To highlight and encourage donations for the work these charities do, I am taking on a challenge in Scotland on September 7th this year - it's Sir Chris Hoy's 'Tour de 4' charity bike ride covering 56 miles in and around Glasgow. This event is aimed at helping change the perception of people living with stage 4 cancer in all its forms.
Connections
My mother died of pancreatic cancer on 29th June 2014; my wife presented with breast cancer on 2nd September 2014, 21 days after we were married and it returned in July 2021; in July 2022 a friend and work colleague passed not long after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and a good friend is currently undergoing treatment for Stage 4 cancer.
Pictures
The main picture is my mother Patricia (with my son Timothy) before she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Other images are: 2 of my wife, who loved her long blond hair, but had to come to terms with losing it following chemotherapy in Sept 2021. Some (not all) chemo treatment causes hair loss and Karen's cancer journey included numerous wigs and head scarves as she feared the loss of her identity. Paddy, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, but refused to let it define his life. You can see his great smile with a fun number plate. Stef, recently diagnosed with stage 4 glioblastoma, is always smiling despite often struggling to find an attractive dance partner! These are all people who did or continue to benefit from the work of cancer charities and who, despite their prognoses, lived and live life to the full. I share these pictures to bring these people to life in your minds - to add meaning and connection for you. They are amongst the kindest and most positive people I have ever known.
Donations
Your donation will be evenly distributed between TWO charities:
NIPANC: https://www.nipanc.org
NIPANC works in Northern Ireland to improve the outcomes for pancreatic cancer by: increasing public understanding and promoting awareness of the cancer’s signs and symptoms by both medical professionals and members of the public; funding vital research and supporting patients and their families.
Pretty n Pink: https://prettynpink.org/about-us/
PnP provides practical help and support for Northern Irish based patients with breast cancer and their families.
'What cancer cannot do' (anonymous).
Cancer is so limited that it cannot cripple love; it cannot shatter hope;
it cannot corrode faith; it cannot destroy peace;
it cannot kill friendship; it cannot suppress memories;
it cannot silence courage; it cannot invade the soul;
it cannot steal eternal life; it cannot conquer the spirit.
Thank you for whatever donation you are able to give.
Peter
