(Update: Another tremor 5.7 hit 10/17/2026, one of many strong aftershocks that continue to impact the region since Oct. 9th)

On October 9, a magnitude 7.5 earthquake struck Panama's Azuero Peninsula, followed by hundreds of aftershocks. A week later, the damage is still being counted, and the numbers keep climbing. And the need is ongoing!

As of October 15, Panama's civil protection agency (SINAPROC) reports:
  • 19,309 people affected
  • 5,821 homes inspected for damage so far, with 879 homes destroyed outright as of October 14
  • 3,696 people living in more than 46 emergency shelters
  • 576 schools and 42 health centers damaged

The hardest-hit areas are Los Santos, Herrera, Veraguas. Damaged roads and bridges have cut off some rural communities, and the rainy season is still ongoing.

Who we are. We're the Sanchez family, and we have a trusted team in Panama, the Herrera family, who are on the ground in Panama. We're not a big organization, and that's our strength: we can move fast and go where the need is.

We have already sent a donation of over $1000 dollars directly from the U.S. through Western Union to support the relief efforts, with donations being delivered the weekend of 10/17/2026.

Even though it has been days since the initial earthquake, multiple more have hit this week, increasing the devastation and toll on the victims.

How your donation works:

You give.

Our team buys supplies in Panama, at local stores, so help arrives in days instead of weeks, and your money also supports Panamanian businesses hit by the quake.

They deliver by hand to affected families, including smaller communities that large relief efforts reach last.

What your gift can do:
  • $25: a hygiene and first-aid kit for one family
  • $40: a heavy-duty tarp and rope to keep rain out of a damaged home
  • $60: a week of food and drinking water for a family

You'll see where every dollar goes. Every few days we'll post store receipts, photos of deliveries, and the communities we reach. Every dollar raised is spent on supplies in Panama, apart from GoFundMe's processing fee and the cost of sending funds to our team.

Please give what you can, and share this page. Sharing helps as much as giving.
