Our names are Scott & Alison Paulin. We are Canadians in the process of retiring in Panama. I (Scott) am currently disabled and on a pension. We used our savings to build a small house in Panama. We just finished the build and had an appointment to get our final inspection mid October. Once inspected, we could have bought insurance. Unfortunately, a week before the inspection, Panama was struck by a major earthquake and hundreds of aftershocks. Our garage was ripped from the house and must be demolished. Our porches were also ripped off of the house. Our land dropped approximately 60cm and the front of our house sunk. We have to rebuild our garage and porches. Our builder has spoken to an engineer and we are hoping to be able to lift the house and add fill and supports under the house to stabilize it. We also have to add fill to the land as the sinking has brought us below sea level and now at high tide, the lagoon behind our house floods the property. Our savings built our house and the little bit of government disability pension I receive is not enough to make the repairs. We are hoping to raise enough funds to rebuild and stabilize our property.
