Pan on Silks
Donation protected
‘Pan' on Silks is a collaborative physical theatre, dance and aerial silks production with regional communities of Mission Beach and surrounding areas of Far North Queensland. It is a fantastical recreation of the classic tale of Peter Pan, an original work performed over 3 nights at the Mission Beach Aquatic Centre over the 2022 Easter long weekend. Sundance Studio, with the help of Regional Arts Development Fund Queensland, are busy planning and executing an incredible opportunity for arts workers and community members alike.

In fact, there are anticipated to be over 90 participants in the total project with 12 professionals, 6 youth groups and 21 development workshops in dance, aerial silks, visual arts, gymnastics and music. This project has so many passionate people involved and will result in some incredible mentorship opportunities between professional arts workers, trainees and graduates, not only on stage but behind the scenes as well, from Cairns, Tully, Innisfail and Mission Beach.
We have just secured funding from Regional Arts Development Fund - Cassowary Coast for $7,260, and although this is hugely exciting, we are seeking more funding contributions. Our initial grant application to Arts Queensland (QASP) - State Government funding where the majority of our funding was anticipated, has not been so successful. As the application entrants were so overwhelming last year, the competition was fierce and we are considered very small fish indeed.
While the short fall in the budget is substantial, we are determined to not give up! We are committed to this project and its successful outcome, one that is worthy of international attention, and to bring Far North Queensland into the forefront of arts and cultural initiatives. This unique project performance will incorporate routines over water, combined with screen projection, hand crafted costumes, animated film projections, lighting design, live music accompaniment, creative sets, live video streaming and the beautiful, breathtaking aerial arts. We believe this project will foster engagement from this wonderfully talented community of dancers, musicians, gymnasts and aerial artists! It will also strengthen relationships between councils, professional and educational sectors. Pan will be a transformative and elaborate production to be enjoyed by the whole family as a circus extravaganza - which will delight, captivate and surprise!
Your support will directly contribute to the complex staging structure and scaffold equipment, which will cost over $13,000. This includes the complex set design, and the engineering, rigging & safety specifications and certifications required to create the aerial performances in and out of the water.
You will be directly contributing to the community. Your support enables the participation and fostering of performers aged between 6 years and 60 years. Moreover, this project is unprecedented: the scale and scope is far beyond anything that has ever been achieved in the area. This is an opportunity for our local community to witness what world class potential we have, and what is possible from this beautiful region of talent.
