Pan Am Lockerbie Memorial Bench Restoration
Donation protected
Thirty-five years ago a commemorative bench was commissioned for the 16 Pan American crew members who lost their lives in the Lockerbie Air Disaster on December 21, 1988. The crew deserved a distinct memorial near their London Base Heathrow and the bench sits underneath the Heathrow flightpath. Kew Gardens was chosen as a perfect location because the beauty of nature is an antidote to the pain of great loss, creating a place to restore hope. This is the only memorial to the victims of this terrorist attack except for in Lockerbie, Scotland and Arlington National Cemetery, USA. This circular bench, encircling a 300 year old oak tree, symbolises the continuation of life, renewal and peace.
Pan Am flight attendants funded the initial construction of this bench. Now, thirty-five years later it is overdue much needed maintenance and repair. All of the money donated will contribute to the renovation of the everlasting memory and legacy of all 16 Pan American crew members.
Always remembered, never forgotten, forever in our hearts.
