Update: Mom has gained her wings. She is now in heaven.
Hello everyone. My name is Mandy. I’ve had several people ask how they can donate since mom does not work or have life insurance so we decided to start a go fund me. As many of you know back in June mom began itching terribly and feeling malaise. She begin to feel sick and sleep more than usual. Finally after a trip to urgent care with no results she decided to go to the hospital. Mom lives with me and we are close to the hospital so I dropped her off at the ER. She called me when she thought she was near being discharged. When I got to her room she was asleep so I sat quietly until the doctor came in to explain what was going on. They found a mass on her liver and were needing to transport her to Baltimore for more testing. They were 90% sure it was cancer. Mom didn’t like the idea of being transported to Baltimore so she had me research the best hospital for liver cancer. I took her to Georgetown Hospital and they confirmed that she in fact has Cancer, Stage 4 Hepatocellular Carcinoma. The cancer had spread to her bile duct and was so big that it was pressing and blocking her bile duct. They took her in and placed a stent in her bile duct so that the toxins that were building up could release. After a 13 day stay there we were left with so many questions. As soon as we got home we immediately received a call that changed our lives forever. Our Mom had 6-8 months to live and that there is no cure for her cancer due to the fact that her liver is also 100% cirrhosis. She was offered Chemotherapy to possibly give her more time here with us but Mom has heard so many stories of people passing more quickly from the effects of chemo. We are now 5 months into that 6-8 month timeline. The days are getting shorter and her health is deteriorating. She has lost so much weight and is down to only 120lbs. She has been hospitalized due to an unknown blood infection recently, swollen feet and ankles make it hard for her to walk some days, her stomach is discended so bad she looks to be 8 months pregnant. It is so hard for us to watch her decline. This has all came on so suddenly. We are desperately preparing for the final costs all while having to take off countless days with no pay due to doctors and hospital stays and visit. We are graciously asking for help so that we can give her the best quality of life moving forward and a nice home going celebration when the sand runs out. Brandy, Danny and myself would like to thank everyone for all they have done so far!
