I had brain surgery on June 9, 2017, to remove a tumor, followed by 7 weeks of radiation and chemotherapy. I have an aggressive brain cancer that tends to return. In addition, I have a blood clot that will cause its own ongoing challenges. Steve and I know we have a long road of treatment ahead us.
My husband and I are feeling the financial strain of living off one income while faced with increased medical and food bills. Due to my current situation, I am unable to work fulltime. I occasionally work from home doing website development. Additionally, part of my healing regimen is eating clean, organic, and locally grown food, which can be expensive.
Although this is a challenging time for us, I am so grateful for the amazing care I am getting at Duke Hospital. I also feel blessed to have so many wonderful friends who are providing us with emotional support. We continue to work on having an optimistic view of the future, even though there are days we feel down about our challenging circumstances—one of which is figuring out the best alternative treatments to add to the traditional care I’m getting from Duke.
