I would like to introduce to you my mother, Pamela Youmas. Pamela is a native of Thomasville, GA and was diagnosed with systemic lupus in 1999. This later attacked her kidneys and she developed end- stage renal disease in 2004.
End-stage renal disease (ESRD) is the most feared consequences of kidney disease. ESRD results when kidney function has determined and is no longer adequate to sustain life. Renal replacement therapy, dialysis, or transplantation becomes necessary to sustain life.
My mother is also a 16-year cancer survivor. She (with the help of my aunt) is taking care of my grandmother who has Stage 4 cancer and lives with her.
Pamela has readily given her time to her church and community.
She has unselfishly put me and my education before her own needs. Now as a concerned daughter, I would like you to support her in any way you can. Now that she is on the list for a transplant, her financial advisor and coordinator of Augusta University Medical Center recommend that she should continue her fundraising to help defray the cost of medical expenses and medication not covered by Medicare.
Some medications are extremely expensive post- transplant for the first year, including weekly visits for a period of time.
On a positive note, the one thing I believe that keeps my mother going is her faith in God, and her positive attitude. Her determination to face her kidney disease has inspired me to do as much as I can to make sure she gets the help and support she needs.
