Pamela Stevens - Memorial
The Milton Winterhawk hockey families are back in high gear prepping for another season of hockey - full of optimism after a year full of unprecedented restrictions.
Parents are counting down the seconds until registration, while kids are frantically pawing through their gear to find out what fits and what doesn’t. Skates are left by the front door of many homes as a reminder - that they desperately need to be sharpened once again.
As we go through the motions of this annual preparation, there is one thing that is very different. A seat will be empty this year.
Pamela Stevens passed away at the age of 39 years old leaving behind many aching hearts but also - so many wonderful memories. She was a daughter, sister, friend, wife, mother to two young boys - and a hockey Mom. She was - and will continue to be - a huge part of our Winterhawk family. She went to every game, every practice. She was known for her kindness, her soft spoken voice and her amazing laugh! But she was infamous for making calls seconds before the ref, sitting by the blue line, and keeping the whole team organized and together as she took on the role of team manager, while her husband volunteered as a coach. She also loved to play competitive volleyball, salsa dance, vacation with her family and enjoy a nice glass of red wine. She had recently received her diploma in Early Childhood Education and was very proud of making the deans list. This incredible woman is so loved and we would like to commemorate her spirit, her love for life and the cancer battle she fought with such grace and dignity.
With the approval of the Stevens family and with the assistance of The Town of Milton, we have requested to reserve Pams seat with a memorial plaque at The Milton Sports Centre in Rink D. This memorial is in conjunction with a fundraiser to help financially struggling families afford to put their children on the ice, to join a local hockey team, and be part of an extended hockey family. 100% of the funds raised will be donated to Milton Minor Hockey and Halton Girls Hockey in memory of Pamela Stevens.
Pam loved kids. Pam loved the game. And I think Pam would love to know that her big heart lives on in so many impactful ways.
She is missed.
