Pamela Mason's Eye Surgery!

Hello friends and family alike!

My name is Gregory, and I'm trying to raise money to support my Aunt Pamela. The past few years haven't been great to my aunt; in 2020, she lost her mother and, not long before that, her own aunt. It's hard enough dealing with the loss of a loved one (or, in this case, two), and thankfully she has had her sister with her to cry with - but then she was given a life-threatening cancer diagnosis.

My aunt is a strong woman. She's served in the U.S. military and has always been very proud of her strength and independence - but it's because of this, she won't readily admit to needing help. She's fought through chemotherapies and has managed to retain most of her health and lifestyle. Suddenly, however, things got worse. Quickly.

As far as we (my aunt, my mother and I) can tell, her medicine has started affecting her eyesight, and she is projected to be blind within three months. My aunt isn't the type to give up over losing her vision, or anything for that matter, so we're not asking her to. That said, nobody wants to see her lose her eyesight and some of that independence she's fostered for so long, so we've started the fundraiser.

The procedure she needs is called an Intraocular Lens Implant (which she needs two of), and it would cost approximately $5,000 or $2,500 per eye. We're hoping to raise at least half of our goal together, so she can still work at a job she loves with people who are as invested in her as we are.

* As a personal aside: as her nephew, knowing that she has two new children in the family she hasn't seen much of (Ava, who is four months old and Ethan, who is six weeks old), hurt me enough to put my own pride aside and organize this gofundme; I don't like asking for help, and I'm as bullheaded as my Aunt Pam sometimes. However, I also understand that Covid-19 has changed our lives in ways differently than we could've predicted, so making money matter is particularly important - to all of us. If you cannot donate, and I urge that you consider it before you do, your well-wishes will go a long way. Your support matters and will always be respected and appreciated.

And so, for reading this far and investing your time into our lives, we thank you. The gift of sight is such a blessing and should never be undervalued.

God bless you and yours; may you have a wonderful day.
