It is with heavy hearts that our family asks for support for my brother, Lekerry, his wife, Pamela, and their 5 small children. On November 29, 2023, Pamela was home with her children and they all were resting after their normal night routine. Messiah, their 3 year old son, woke up to use the restroom and noticed something was not right. He went to wake his mother who then noticed the huge fire that had already spread through half their home. She rushed to get her children as fast and safely as she could. She managed to get 3 out without any delays, but 2 children remained in the house. She heard a scream and followed the sound back inside and was able to located her 2 year old daughter, Malani. Their 7-month old, Malakai, was still in the house in living room, which was the first place the fire affected. With time a struggle Pamela was able to pull her small infant baby boy out of the house. He was taken to Leboneur Children’s Hospital where he was treated. At first they believed he had 15% of burns. A few days later, when they took him back for his second surgery, they discovered he was burned at 25%. His condition went from first degree burn determination to third degree. Due to the severity of his condition Malakai was then placed on a ventilator and had to be flown to a different state to be treated by burn specialists. He was transported along with his father via plane this morning, December 2. Mom lost all her identification due to the fire so she and grandma, Natasha Cowan, are traveling via car to join Lekerry and Malakai.
The family lost everything that they had. They are also out of work as they are in a different state with their youngest who is still fighting. Their children are being looked after by the family as the tragedy continues. We ask for support of the community with contributions and prayers. The children’s ages range from 5 years to 7 months. We as a community can express our love by helping support this family get back on their feet during this trying time. Thank you and God Bless.
