Pam Wallace Stocking's fight for independence

Pam (Wallace) Stocking, WCHS class of '73, has always been the person helping others, but today she needs our help!
Last week our beautiful friend, Pam, was rushed to the hospital with a right subdural hematoma, caused by a bump to her head leading to a stroke. Because of the quick actions of her husband, Rick, she was immediately taken into surgery where the neurosurgeon was able to stop the bleeding and save her life. We were told she may never walk again and she may be paralyzed on her right side. Through her 9 days in ICU Rick did not leave her side. He found out yesterday that her insurance group, Upland Medical Care, wanted to release her to go home and will not pay for any more care. This is undoubtably medical malpractice! Pam cannot walk, she cannot feed herself, she cannot see clearly out of her right eye, and she has not passed the “swallow test,” which means that she is aspirating fluid into her lungs and this could lead to aspiration pneumonia. Upland Medical Care is not only denying hospital care for Pam but they are also denying her access to a rehabilitation center (Casa Colina), and for any home care. Pam is still in GREAT need of occupational therapy, physical therapy, vision therapy, and speech therapy. She needs to learn how to hold a fork, how to write with a pen, how to walk….she needs to learn daily living skills and how to be the best she can be! When Pam goes home, she will need the same therapies delivered in her home and could possibly need a wheel chair, walker, shower rails, and/or a hospital bed. Basically, Rick will need to retrofit their home to meet her new needs.
Today, Rick moved Pam to Casa Colina and is paying 100% for Pam’s rehabilitation. He was told that her daily care for the next 20 days is over $1,251 a day just for the room. The cost for doctor care and therapy will be an additional expense and the cost to bring her home will also be added to that number. It is estimated that Rick and Pam will need to spend over $40,000 for Pam’s recovery.
Rick and Pam Stocking have always been givers. Pam spent a career as an elementary school teacher. Over the years, they’ve supported anyone in need but today they need our help! I know if the tables were turned, they’d be there for all of us. Please help our friend, Pam Wallace Stocking, as she fights for an independent life. Any donation and all prayers are needed and greatly appreciated!
With gratitude,
Shari O'Cain Harris, Kathy Kimsey Schmidt, and Terri Kater Davis
