The Palmyra Black Knights Sled Hockey Team is an adaptive sports team that enables youth and adults with disabilities in the central Pennsylvania area to play sled ice hockey. The program is USA Hockey sanctioned, and is a non-profit, 100% volunteer organization.
Sled hockey is much like stand-up hockey, except players sit in a sled and use two hockey sticks to propel themselves and play the game. Some players with limited arm mobility/strength have a "pusher" who helps them move on the ice. The excitement, competition, and thrill of the game is the same as stand-up hockey!
The Palmyra Black Knights Sled Hockey Team welcomes anyone ages 6 and up who has a physical disability that prevents them from playing stand-up hockey. There are no other competitive athletic opportunities in the area for physically disabled youth, so many of the players drive long distances (sometimes from other states!) just to practice and play on the team. The Palmyra Black Knights sled hockey program gives these athletes a fun, safe, competitive place to play.
While the team does traditional fundraising to offset most of their expenses, this year, they are in need of additional assistance to purchase ice time so they can continue to practice throughout the summer. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to help these athletes continue to play the sport they love.
